As a Tikkun Olam participant, you will have the opportunity to be part of two vibrant communities of young Israeli volunteers in South Tel Aviv and in Jaffa.
Bina B'Schuna (Bina in the Neighborhood)
As part of Bina in the Neighborhood, you will have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in an environment full of others with the same commitments to social justice, including many young groups of Israelis who also live and volunteer in South Tel Aviv just like you. Together, the Bina community celebrates many religious and cultural holidays, with the Tikkun Olam members a part of the planning process.
In the past Tikkun Olam mebers have also organized events commemorating their own traditions, ranging from Thanksgiving dinner to college basketball, giving their Israeli peers a look into the broader sense of being a Jew in the Diaspora. Many of the activists within Bina are also influential in the greater Tel Aviv community, providing opportunities for many intimate and in-depth educational events and classes that are offered to the Tikkun Olam participants.
Past speakers and visitors at Bina events have included former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Tel Aviv-Jaffa Mayor Ron Huldai, and former Israeli Education Minister Yuli Tamir.
The Daniel Centers
In the spirit of connecting Jews from congregations worldwide to Israelis, the Daniel Centers welcome visiting congregations to experience Shabbat alongside Israeli congregants. Visitors are brought into the community for lively Friday night services and then spend dinner conversing with Israeli congregants, sharing experiences, thoughts and dreams, realizing the vision of kol Yisrael achim (All Israel are brothers). It is through these mifgashim (encounters) that the Daniel Centers work to link together Jewish communities worldwide.
